FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership sponsored its annual Industry Appreciation Golf Tournament and Dinner May 22, 2003 with nearly 70 golfers vying for great prizes and recognition. 17 teams teed-off at the Starkville County Club for a friendly round of golf, prizes, and door prizes. Later that evening, over 120 community officials, including Partnership staff and board members gathered with numerous industry representatives to publicly thank the county's industries for their contributions to our community and to offer continued support of their growth, expansions, and community involvement.

Presenting the annual Industry of the Year Award was Partnership CEO and President David Thornell who commented that this year's winner of the prestigious award, Synergetics, is a great success story for our community. Synergetics has four offices in Starkville, Cleveland, and Jackson and employs 45 people. " They are a "home-grown" business, having been founded by a Starkville native, Jim Raines, and they are now in their fourth location. The former Motorguide building had sat empty for over a year and a half, but has now been renovated and occupied by not only Synergetics, as owner, but also houses several other tenants. They are recognized as leading technology consultants and are now opening other offices around the State. They are very active in many community projects and causes, and are very deserving of this honor", says Thornell.

On hand to accept the award for Synergetics was founder Jim Raines.

In addition Tony Carr of Hewlett Industries and President of the Starkville Area Industry Roundtable, presented Rodney Faver, an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Roundtable. Faver recently retired after 40 years with Garan Manufacturing, 25 of which were in the Starkville office as Corporate Vice President.

Throughout the course of the dinner, the Partnership sponsored its annual "Thank You" to all local industry employees by giving out door prizes donated by local businesses.
